General terms and conditions



Singers (male/female) of all voice types and nationalities, born later than December 31st, 1979, are invited to enter the competition.

The competition will be held at the Teatro “Francesco Stabile” of Potenza from July 7th to July 11th 2015. A conclusive concert will be held at “Palazzo Montano” of Guardia Perticara (PT) on July 12th, 2015.

The competition is divided into a “1st Round”, “Semi-finals” and “Finals”.
The 1st Round and the Semi-finals may be occasionally available to the public; the finals are in any case open to an audience.
The day following the Finals a conclusive concert will be held with the competition’s winners and honourable awardees.

OperaLive reserves the right to record and broadcast in first person or via radio and television excerpts or the entire competition, as well as the productions and performances of the opera titles in competition. The same applies for film, audio and video (stream) recordings in all known and future media. The participants will receive no remuneration for this.

In accordance with the Italian Legislative Decree 196/2003, OperaLive shall collect the personal data supplied by the candidates for the purpose of running the Competition.

Candidates agree to the disclosure of their personal data for promotional purposes to agencies, opera and concert houses, festivals etc.The regulations for the Competition shall be legally binding in the Italian language version published on the official OperaLive Competition website. Any disputes regarding these regulations shall be brought before the Court of Potenza.

Registration

Registration can only be submitted online through the application form on the OperaLive Competition website (operalivecompetition.com) no later than by July 1st, 2015. (* registration deadline postponed to July 6th, 2015 at 12:00 am).

For application deadlines, the Central European Time (CET) applies. The General Terms and Conditions of this competition have been acknowledged and approved by the candidate by completion of online registration. The registration will only be valid once OperaLive confirms by e-mail that it has accepted the candidate.

The competition’s registration fee is € 50,00 (fifty) to be paid directly HERE through PayPal or by bank transfer to the following account:

The reason for payment to be indicated is: “OperaLive Competition 2015 Registration Fee”.

The registration fee is nonrefundable in case of the candidate’s waiver or of impediment.

Candidates will be asked to upload the following documents when filling out the
application form:

  1. A scanned copy of the bank transfer.
  2. A scanned copy of current identity document.
  3. A professional biography/resume in Italian or English (PDF format – 2 pages max.)
  4. A personal headshot and full shot photographs (Minimum headshot size 4cm x 6cm. Minimum full shot size 7cm x 10cm. Resolution 300 dpi. Format JPEG.)

OperaLive reserves the right to grant access directly to the final stages of the competition to the candidates deemed worthy, based on their curriculum vitae et studiorum and the results achieved in other international competitions.

Programme

Each candidate must choose for which role/s he or she is auditioning. All candidates may audition for no more than two roles for opera title.

Candidates must present the complete chosen roles from the opera titles in competition and four additional opera arias in the original key and original language to be sung from memory.

Any changes in the programme presented must be communicated via e-mail prior to the registration deadline.

The competition is structured as follows:

  • 1st Round: Candidates will perform one aria of their choice from their competition repertoire. The Panel of Judges has the right to ask for an additional aria from their competition repertoire.
  • Semi-finals: Candidates will perform one aria from their competition repertoire chosen for them by the Panel, which has the right to ask for an additional aria from their competition repertoire or from the chosen roles of the operas in
    competition.
  • Finals: Candidates will perform, in solo and/or in ensemble, an aria chosen by the Panel from the Candidate’s competition repertoire and his/her chosen roles of the operas in competition.

For the 1st Round and the Semi-finals candidates will be accompanied by piano. For the Finals a full orchestra will accompany the candidates. OperaLive will appoint an accompanist but all candidates are free to bring their accompanist at their own expense.

The conclusive concert will be accompanied by piano.

Each candidate must bring his/her own piano reductions of the chosen arias for the pianist, since the competition will provide no material.

It is recommended to be appropriately dressed for the 1st Round and the Semi-finals, while for the Finals and the conclusive concert is required formal dress.

Panel of Judges

The Panel will be formed by established international Opera Impresarios, General Managers, Artistic and Casting Directors, Agents.

OperaLive will nominate one of the above-mentioned representatives of the opera world as Chairman and appoint one or more substitute members in the event that one or more of the designated members are unable to attend the Competition.

The Panel reserves the right to refrain from awarding a prize and/or a role altogether or to divide a prize. The decision of the jury is final and incontestable.

The Panel shall make its decisions in secret session by a majority vote (half plus one). In case of a tie, the Chairman will cast the deciding vote.

The names of the Candidates admitted to the next round and its schedule be made known after each round and upon conclusion of the sessions of the Panel.

At the end of the Finals, after completing its deliberations, the Panel will announce the winners.

Prizes

The winners are required to attend training and preparatory courses for all scheduled operas. The winners commit to then stage their chosen roles in at least two performances in the productions of the operas in competition promoted by OperaLive, Orchestra da Camera e Sinfonica Lucana and C.I.A.L.M. – The Italian Opera Company during the 2015 season.

The Panel may grant to those candidates who demonstrate outstanding potential in terms of technique and performing ability an Honourable Mention, although considered not fully adequate for the roles they indicated for the competition. The candidates awarded the Honourable Mention may be invited to attend the preparatory courses and may take part in the musical activities programmed by OperaLive, Orchestra da Camera e Sinfonica Lucana and C.I.A.L.M. – The Italian Opera Company, including the operas in competition but in different roles from the ones presented in competition.

OperaLive may cover the roles left unfilled with Honourable Mention awardees, with students of The Italian Opera Academy or other international music institutes, with winners of other international competitions and with professionals chosen through auditions organized by OperaLive itself.

For each performance the winners of the Competition will be awarded (pre-tax fee):

La bohème
€ 2.000,00 for the roles of Mimì, Rodolfo.
€ 1.500,00 for the roles of Musetta, Marcello, Schaunard, Colline.

Don Giovanni
€ 2.000,00 for the roles of Don Giovanni, Donna Anna, Don Ottavio, Donna Elvira, Leporello.
€ 1.500,00 for the roles of Masetto, Zerlina, Il Commendatore.

A contract for one concert, offered by the Fondazione Luciano Pavarotti, in memory of M° Luciano Pavarotti, to the most promising tenor, who will also receive 1 scholarship in the amount of five hundred Euros (€ 500,00).

All winners and honourable mention awardees will receive a full board scholarship for attending the training and preparatory courses.

A sum of two hundred Euros (€ 200,00) pre-tax fee will be awarded as expenses refund to those competitors selected for the finals.

The prizes awarded in terms of money will be paid after the finals on July 12th, 2015 by bank transfer.

Productions and Courses

The productions are scheduled for the following dates:

“La bohème” – from August 24th to September 13th 2015
“Don Giovanni” – from November 23rd to December 20th 2015

Training and preparatory courses will be held at Palazzo Montano in Guardia Perticara and at Teatro Francesco Stabile of Potenza in the following dates:
