Ludek Golat Director

Singer and director, but also artistic director of the National Opera Theatre of Moravia-Silesia “Antonin Dvorak” from 1992 to 2006, and superintendent from 1998 to 2009.

After studying singing in Italy with Maestro Ettore Campogalliani, he graduates in singing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (AMU), where he specializes also in opera directing. For several years he sings as a soloist (bass) in several theatres in the Czech Republic and throughout Europe.

He has taught at the Conservatory of Ostrava and at the Janacek’s Academy of Fine Arts in Brno, as well as working for several years as a director for the National Theatre in Prague. In Ostrava, Ludek Golat has worked not only with the Ostrava opera ensemble, but also with the Children´s Opera Studio and Romany Music and Drama Studio of the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava (Midas´s Donkey´s Ears, Lads, The Bumble-bee).

From 1992 to 2009 he was appointed artistic director of opera and later superintendent of the National Theatre of Moravia-Silesia in Ostrava. In 2006 he appointed Oliver Dohnanyi to replace him as artistic director.

From 2009 to 2010, in addition to carrying out an intense activity as director, Golat was appointed artistic consultant to the superintendent of the State Opera of Prague.

In 2012 he was appointed artistic director of the International Festival Opera Prague.

From 2013 he is also responsible on behalf of the Opera of Plzen for the international projects within Plzen European Capital of Culture 2015.

In the Critics Music Survey, organised by the Theatre Newspaper, Ludek Golat´s performances have been declared several times “The Staging of the Year” (Lancelot, Pélleas et Mélisande, Eufrides in Front of the Tymen Gates, Bastien und Bastienne, The War, Macbeth a. o.).
